Did you know:
A business name does not result in the
creation of an entity with separate legal
personality from its proprietors.
Business name registration involves
an individual partnership or company
disclosing that he/she/they/it are
carrying on business under a name
which does not consist of the
individuals name or the names of all
partners or the corporate name, without
any addition, as the case may be. The
legal entity is the owner of the business
name - the individual(s) or company
which has/have registered the name.
No new legal entity is created when the
business name is registered.

A business name is a trading name which differs from the names of the persons or
the company who own the business.
Business names are more commonly referred to as Sole Proprietorships, (in the case
of a single business owner), BN2 (with reference to the Form used to
register),business ownerships ( where there are more that one business owners), and
is Registered under the Business Names Act Cap 499 Laws of Kenya
1.NAME SEARCH,
Proposed name must be reserved pending registration.
Application for reservation should be made in writing and accompanied
with the prescribed fee.
2. Once a name is approved and reserved, the applicant(s) should complete a
statement
of particulars form ( BN 2)
3 Certificate of registration is processed thereafter.
Any change in particulars of a registered business should be notified to the
Registrar on the prescribed form i.e. Notice of change form - BN4 and in
case of cessation, Notice of Cessation Form.
